Third Place Daytona Wrap Up Interview!

3/13/2000

Recapped By: Robbie, Watts

VRM:

You rode a great race in Daytona, how did you prepare for such a demanding race?

Nick Wey:

I rode at Ricky Carmichael's the whole week before the race and rode extremely hard during the week before
that.

VRM:

Did you do anything different as far as bike setup for Daytona?

Nick Wey:

I decided to just use my standard supercross setup but with softer settings for the suspension. I used those settings the whole time I practiced so I would be comfortable with the bike on Saturday for the race.

VRM:

What did you think about the track?

Nick Wey:

I thought it was a fun track with lots of whoops and some pretty big jumps.

VRM:

What happened on the start and how did that play out? It's so hard to tell what exactly is going on from the stands and
the television coverage.

Nick Wey:

I got a good jump out of the gate but I lost some traction as soon as I hit the sand. I got shut out in the first turn and was in 12th.

VRM:

Everyone talks about how hard the Daytona SX is compared to other supercross events, how did you feel during the race?

Nick Wey:

I was well prepared so I didn't get tired. The start played such a big role that by the time I got into third the leaders were too far ahead to catch with such a long track. My lap times were right with the leader's times so who knows what might have happened if I would have gotten a better start.

VRM:

What do you plan to do from here on?

Nick Wey:

I will be at home practicing on the track behind my parent's house all week before St. Louis Supercross. I am hoping for a heat race win which will then propel me to a main event win.
