Minor Mistakes Cost Wey a Top Spot at Houston, TX

MINNEAPOLIS, (Feb. 16, 2004) - With a blazing start (2nd) on his RM 250 this past Saturday at Houston's Reliant Stadium, Team Suzuki's Nick Wey's first podium of the year seemed to be in sight. However, a couple minor mistakes later in the race would force him down a couple notches and into sixth place overall, but, more importantly, moving him 'up' a notch in the overall point standings (6th place) and only two points out of fifth place overall - easily the highest overall 250 class placing for a Suzuki rider in quite some time.

"You know, I'm getting sick of all these fifth and sixth place finishes," said Team Suzuki's Nick Wey, semi-jokingly, while signing autographs for a sponsor at Sunday's Indy Trade Show. "I know through taking with Roger (DeCoster) that consistency is important because of how demanding the supercross season is, but I really want to crack the top three here soon."

This weekend's race in Minneapolis, Round Eight of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series, may be just the place for Wey to achieve his goal as he finished on the podium there on a 125 in 2001, and won the nearby Millville Outdoor National there two years prior to that.

"Yeah, Minnesota's been good to me," said Wey, who hails from DeWitt, Mich. "Feels more like home, racing in a dome with snow on the ground outside."

The following week Wey and Team Suzuki will be in Atlanta for Round Nine of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series.
