Start Troubles Wey Again - This Time in Atlanta

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (March 1, 2004) - Team Suzuki rider Nick Wey battled back from a last-place start at Atlanta's Georgia Dome to finish an impressive 11th overall in 250 class action this past weekend - the most positions made up by any rider in the race.

Still, Wey says he's expecting more out of himself and is looking forward to Daytona this Friday to prove it.

"That's the second week in a row I've trouble at the start. I'm over it," said Wey.

Last year at Daytona Wey finished seventh - the highest placing for a non-factory supported rider.

"Daytona's a good time," said Wey. "All of the industry's in town and there's definitely a lot going on. Racing at night will be interesting, adding what could be another difficult element to an already difficult track. But my RM 250's prepared for the challenge and so am I."

Though Wey dipped a bit in the points (seventh), six points out of sixth, he's still by far the highest-ranking Suzuki rider on the tour and well within striking distance of the top five overall.

"Daytona will be a good place for me to make a move on the rest of the field, carry some momentum when we come back to the Midwest," said Wey. "Fitness is going to play a role in this weekend's race, maybe more so than a lot of the other races. I've been staying on top of my cardio strength through cycling and plan on putting that to good use this weekend."

The following weekend (March 13) Wey and Team Suzuki travel to St. Louis for Round 11 of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series.
