Poor Starts Getting the Best of Nick Wey - Indy Will Be Better

INDIANAPOLIS, (March 15, 2004) - Despite posting the fifth fastest lap time of the weekend - and the fastest time by any Suzuki rider - a tough start in the main event had Team Suzuki's Nick Wey playing catch up ball again in Saturday's race at St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome. Wey, who raced back from a 14th place start to finish in the top ten (9th), is still the top Suzuki rider in the overall points standing (6th overall).

"I'm not liking these poor starts," said Wey. "I ride great in practice, get through my heat with no problem and have just run into some bad luck at the starts. My RM 250 is running great, allows me to fight back through the pack. But it's not about that. It's about getting out strong, early and finishing on the podium. And that's where Suzuki deserves to be."

After an accidental practice get together with Suzuki teammate Travis Pastrana left Wey a bit banged up, he cruised through his heat race (5th), almost catching rival Tyler Evans for fourth.

In the main event, Wey picked his way through the crowd, easily disposing of Evans on his way into the top ten. But Wey ran into a log jam of riders including fellow Suzuki rider Andrew Short, former teammate Heath Voss and Michael Byrne - all riding in train formation and all refusing to get passed. So Wey was forced to settled for ninth.

"I'll have a better result at Indy for sure," said Wey, who finished 12th at the RCA Dome last year.

Wey and Team Suzuki get a break following the Indy round and return to action for Round 13 of the 2004 THQ/AMA Supercross Series at the Pontiac, Mich., Silverdome (April 3).
