LAS VEGAS, (May 3, 2004) - Persistence, tenacity and the ability to overcome injury - not to mention speed - were the key traits that allowed Team Suzuki's Nick Wey to capture fifth place overall this year in the THQ/AMA Supercross Series' 250cc class - the highest overall placement by a Suzuki rider in the premier class of the world's most prestigious supercross racing series.

Wey, battling all season long, had to make up three points on rival Michael Byrne and did so with a consistent and fast riding attack plan. Wey also took advantage of a Byrne miscalculation in the whoop section and rode on to a well-deserved fifth place finish at Vegas. Wey would finish the season with 11 top ten finishes, including 10 top seven finishes. Wey's best finish came at San Francisco (4th), with his most memorable race being Daytona when he raced back from 17th to 5th.

"Seemed like I battled back from a lot of not-so-great starts," admitted Wey. "I think that's a testament to the RM 250 and how well a job Team Suzuki does preparing my race bike every week. I'm looking forward to seeing how well this bike does at the Nationals, take charge and challenge for Suzuki's first title (250) since Albie won back in 1999."

Wey and Team Suzuki begin the 2004 Outdoor Nationals campaign a week from this Sunday (May 12) at Hangtown.
