ANAHEIM, Calif. - Team
Suzuki's Nick Wey continued to place his RM 250 in the top ten amongst a field
full of four stroke bikes, this past weekend racing to consistent 9-9 moto
finishes for ninth overall at the final race at Kenworthy's MX Park in Troy, Ohio,
Round Seven of the 2004 AMA Chevrolet U.S. Motocross Championships.
"I got off the line poorly and it cost me," said Wey of his 13th and
11th place starts. "I was able to move up into the top ten, but didn't
have much luck getting any further than that."
Wey continued: "I liked the track, about the best conditions it's ever
been in. I ran into some difficulty making passes. The corners were tight and I
was having a tough time holding off the four strokes on the long straight
away."
Wey was one of only a few racers to make the triple leading into the
"Dirty Dozen" rhythm section, but decided not to do so during the
race. "That was a high risk move and I didn't feel I had the right
opportunity to nail it in the race," he said.
Last year at Washougal, Wey raced to a 12th place finish overall, going 13-8.
In 2002 Wey finished in eighth place overall, scoring two top ten moto finishes
(7-9).
Following Washougal, Wey and Team Suzuki have the week off before action
resumes Aug. 15th at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minn.
