VANCOUVER, B.C., (Dec. 13, 2004)
– MDK Motorsports’ Nick Wey, blazed to a podium finish (2nd) at the second
round of the THQ World Supercross GP this past weekend at BC Place Stadium.
Wey, who was also on the podium at the U.S. Open this fall, tapped on his
Nationals loam riding skills to conquer the softer Vancouver track, putting up
lap times that were consistently right behind multi-champion Ricky Carmichael.
Wey also took full advantage of his superb fitness level to keep the charging
pack at bay, including several factory-backed racers.
“I didn’t have as great a race in Toronto as I’d have liked, so I used that to
motivate me for this Vancouver round,” said Wey. “Everything came together
well. My bike is running excellent, which helped me gain some confidence early
in the practice rounds and I was able to carry that over to the main.”
But now, according to Wey, all sights are set on the opening round of the
THQ/AMA Supercross Series in Anaheim.
“With Anaheim, there’s been a great deal of talk about just a few names,” said
Wey. “I know that with not only myself, but some other riders, this gives some
added motivation heading into the opener. I’ve got an excellent bike with great
support from my sponsors and plan on hitting Anaheim with the momentum that
I’ve gained from the Open and these two World Supercross rounds.
Wey and MDK Motorsports will be returning to action at the much anticipated
opening round of the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series in Anaheim (Jan. 8).
