Team MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey Likely Out Until Southwick

“Hangtown was a test and I came away from it knowing my knee just isn’t ready,” said Wey
CARLSBAD, Calif., (May 27, 2005) –
Team MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey has decided it’s too soon to return from knee surgery and will sit out the Mt. Morris round of the AMA Motocross Championship presented by FMF this weekend. Wey will likely return to action in two weeks when the series picks back up at Southwick the weekend of June 12th.
“We gave‘er a shot at Hangtown and, though my knee felt pretty good, I came away feeling I still needed a bit more time to get back to where I can be competitive at the Nationals,” said Wey. “We’ve got a week off here after Mt. Morris, so I’ll use that time to continue to train, put more stress on the knee and, if things go as planned, I’ll be back for Southwick.” Noteworthy: Wey is training under the watchful eye of Sara Stanton, a highly knowledgeable physical therapist who’s also the wife of multi-time MX/SX champion Jeff Stanton.
Added Crown AMG President/CEO Scott Sepkovic: “There is no pressure on Nick whatsoever to return. The guys at Unbound Energy met with him last week at Hangtown and are excited to see him return to racing, only once Nick feels his knee is 100-percent. And being the professional that he is, Nick spent hours of his time with motocross fans both at the track and off site at an ampm promotion with Unbound. His sponsors are happy and looking forward to his healthy return.”
Unbound Energy is available in 16 oz. cans at BP and ampm retail locations.
