Team MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey Top Tens At Southwick Hard
work pays off for popular Michigan racer as he rebounds from supercross season
knee surgery to finish in sixth place in the heat of the grueling Southwick
Outdoor MX National presented by FMF.
CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 14, 2005) – Team
MDK/Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey blazed back onto the Outdoor National MX radar this
past weekend, scoring a sixth place finish on a terribly difficult Motocross
338 track in Southwick, Mass., and putting to rest any questions of if
he’s ready to race following
reconstructive knee surgery a few months ago.
“If there was one track on the circuit
that would provide the best test for my knee it was going to be Southwick,”
said Wey, who went 8-5 for sixth overall in the 250 class. “I rode hard, put a
lot of pressure on the knee and it came though fine. From here on in I can enter
each race for the remainder of the Nationals season with the confidence knowing
my surgery was a success and I’m able to use my leg just like I was prior to my
injury.”
Wey was able to get out of his Saturday
qualifier in good shape, finishing third. His practice times were right up
there as well (fourth best) – a good indication that the former National
winner
(Millville) has his speed back.
“I’d definitely like to send a thanks
out to Sara Stanton (Jeff’s wife),” said Wey. “She’s definitely one of the main
reasons why I was able to get back to health so quickly.” Note: Sara Stanton
took
charge of Wey’s rehabilitation process,
getting Nick up and active the day after his surgery.
Added Crown AMG President Scott
Sepkovic: “I think I can safely say, on behalf of the entire industry, how
happy we are to see Nick back racing again. To return to form as quickly as
Nick did is a testament to his work ethic and hunger for greatness. The staff
at Unbound Energy looks forward to following Nick’s progress and continued success
throughout the summer.”
Unbound Energy is available in 16 oz.
