Michigan racer passes rival Ivan Tedesco late in race
to take podium spot at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl; Chad Reed finishes 5th
overall
CARLSBAD,
Calif., (March 20, 2006) – Unbound Energy-backed Nick Wey
scored his second podium finish of the year on the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross
Series tour, this past weekend racing to a 3rd place finish in
come-from-behind fashion at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl Stadium.
Wey, who returns home this weekend to race
the inaugural supercross at Detroit’s Ford Field, is now ranked ahead of two
factory-backed rivals, Michael Byrne of Kawasaki and Travis Preston of Honda.
And to make the podium, Wey had to pass another factory-backed racer in Ivan
Tedesco (Suzuki).
“Things came together nicely at Orlando,”
said Wey. “I started the day with a really good heat race (2nd to
main event winner James Stewart) and pretty much carried that speed into the
main. Looking forward to heading back to Michigan this weekend and seeing a
bunch of friends and family before we race at Ford Field.”
Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed (Yamaha) was
uncharacteristically off the podium on Saturday. Reed, who finished 5th
overall, lost a bit of ground on AMA Supercross class overall points leader
Ricky Carmichael. Reed is in second place – comfortably – but now trails series
points leader Carmichael by eight points, 337-229.
Heading up the Unbound Energy-backed Moto
XXX team again this weekend was Tim “Red Dog” Ferry. Racing in front of his
hometown fans in Orlando, Ferry was right behind Wey and fellow Floridian
Stewart in the first heat race (3rd), then parlayed that momentum
into an 8th place overall finish in the Supercross class main event.
In the AMA Lites class, Unbound/Moto XXX’s Josh Summey finished 21st
overall.
The Unbound Energy-backed racers return to
action this weekend when Round 12 of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross
Series heads north to Detroit’s Ford Field (March 25th). Action gets
underway at 7:30 p.m.
Unbound Energy is available in 16 oz. cans
at BP and am/pm retail locations, with more locations and a Sugar-Free Unbound
