Big Prizes Await Top-Finishing Privateers in Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP

 

AURORA, Ill. (April 20 , 2006) – Honda’s Nick Wey, of Dewitt, Mich., leads the 2005-’06 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series top privateer standings 230-162 over Honda’s Ryan Clark, of Waddell, Ariz., with three races remaining. The top finishing privateer in Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP will be awarded a new 2006 Toyota Tundra, a 2006 Weekend Warrior Supercross Edition trailer courtesy of Giant RV and $25,000 from US Smokeless Tobacco Company.

 

Clark sits just two points (162-160) ahead of third place rider Jeff Gibson, of Blacklick, Ohio, in privateer standings. The US Smokeless Tobacco Company will award $15,000 and $10,000 to the second and third place finishers respectively in Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP.

 

“Nick has raised the bar for the privateers competing in Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of supercross, Amp’d Mobile Supercross. “Throughout the season he has finished on the podium twice in one of the most competitive seasons ever. He has proved that he can race with the top factory riders and has positioned himself within the top five after Houston.”

 

"Coming into the season it was definitely one of my intentions to be in the running for the top privateer award," said Wey. "Top privateer honors have been prestigious in the past, and I am glad to be in the hunt for this position. This year I've had a few top five finishes, a couple top threes and would be pretty pumped to take home that Weekend Warrior trailer, the US Smokeless Tobacco money and the Toyota Truck - not to mention the generous prize money from Live Nation.”

Last year Suzuki-backed Tyler Evans, of Corona, Calif., picked up top finishing privateer honors, Honda-backed Damon Huffman, of Valencia, Calif., was second and Honda-backed Jason Thomas, of Melrose, Fla., was third.
