Wey and Tim Ferry engage in great battle for in
rain-soaked SBC Park event
CARLSBAD,
Calif., (Jan. 29, 2007) – MDK Motorsports-backed Nick Wey
rallied back from a disappointing turn of events this past week to make the top
five overall on Saturday at San Francisco’s SBC Park in the hotly-contested
Supercross class at Round Four of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.
Wey, who’s team was accused by the AMA of
using illegal fuel and forced to forfeit his Anaheim 2 podium finish and
points, rebounded from that unsettling event and showed the true
professionalism that he’s been know for through out his career, putting up the
best privateer performance of the weekend in San Francisco.
“I felt I had something to prove for the
people at MDK,” said Wey. “I was able to put the week’s events behind me and
focus on the race, which is really what mattered. What allegedly happened was
out of my control. What I did have control over was the way I raced, and I felt
we did pretty good as a team on Saturday.”
In addition, Wey’s teammate, David
Vuillemin, finished 6th overall at SBC Park.
Wey made the main event by virtue of the
final transfer spot (9th) in heat No. 2. In the main Wey avoided a
major first turn pile up and got out of the first lap in 6th place,
quickly moving past fellow privateers Bryan Johnson and Eric Sorby to get into
4th. Wey was able to hold that position for much of the race before
being caught by factory racer Tim Ferry on lap 16 of the 20-lap contest.
Wey, who should be in 5th place
overall with 62 points is tied for 10th with 42 points due to the
AMA sanction.
This weekend Wey remains in California for
Round Five of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, set for Anaheim’s
Angels Stadium (Feb. 3rd). Last year at Anaheim 3 Wey finished 10th
overall.
