CARLSBAD,
Calif., (Feb. 6, 2007) – MDK Motorsports-backed Nick Wey blew
everybody out of the water in the start of the AMA Supercross class main event,
pulling off the line gunfighter style and leading the entire field into the
first turn of the third Anaheim (Calif.) round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA
Supercross Series.
The effort by Wey, coming on the heels of a
questionable AMA decision to penalize Wey and the MDK Motorsports team for
allegedly using improper fuel (a decision that is being vehemently challenged),
was seen as vindication for the he and the entire MDK team.
“We needed that,” said Wey of his privateer
holeshot effort.
Wey let it be known early on Saturday that
he’d be challenging for the podium. Posting the fifth-fastest time in practice,
Wey cruised through his qualifier (5th) to make the main. At the end
of the first lap and sitting in fourth place, Wey would keep factory racer Tim
Ferry in sight for the overall final spot on the podium, but wouldn’t be able
to make the pass, settling on a well-deserved 4th place overall.
“Timmy rode really good tonight,” said Wey.
“I was right there with him, but kept making small mistakes every lap.”
Wey, who should be in 4th place
overall with 80 points is tied for 7th with 60 points due to a controversial
AMA sanction over alleged improper fuel.
This weekend Wey remains in California for
Round Six of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, set for Houston’s
Reliant Stadium (Feb. 10th). Last year at Houston Wey finished 9th
overall.

year’s supercross tours include: MSR, Scott, Bell Helmets, Oxtar, Etnies,
