MDK/KTM’s Nick Wey Will Race Daytona Supercross

Wey, still battling the effects of pneumonia, practiced today on the KTM450, felt “pretty good,” and will bring his game to Daytona International Speedway

CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 5, 2008) – Team MDK/KTM’s Nick Wey announced today that he will race Friday’s (March 7th) Daytona, Fla., round of 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, at Daytona International Speedway.

Wey, who’s been battling the lingering effects of pneumonia for the last couple races and was forced to sit out last Saturday’s race in Indianapolis, said he got out and practiced today for the first time in weeks and felt like he was ready to go for Daytona.

“I’m definitely not 100-percent, but I want to get back and race, try to preserve my status in the top ten overall in points,” said Wey, who was on the 125 class podium at Daytona in 2000. Note: Wey’s 2008 supercross season is historic for Factory KTM as his run on the KTM450 – which includes five top ten o/a finishes - is the first time ever that the Austrian company has had its premier class bike ranked in the top ten overall points in AMA Supercross.

Wey is currently tied with David Vuillemin for 9th place overall in the premier AMA Supercross class. Each racer has 84 points.

Also stepping up to back Wey this year, along with MDK and KTM, are a number of high level sponsors including: MSR, Spy Optic, Oxtar, Vans and Bell.
